Transcendental Sonnet #1350:
Poetry Lived As a Pilgrimage

I want to live life at the leading edge
The tip of the spear and the blade of time
My poetry lived as a pilgrimage
With spirit animating every rhyme
My heartbeat and my breath the meter now

By the grace of God with a few good friends
I want to taste all that time will allow
Nor worry about means nor hurry ends
But be a simple and an honest man

Simply and honestly do what I can
To make things a little better somehow
Because I am here and always stay near
Those truths taught me by those who went before
Who watch from the other side of the door
