I think the conventional explanation is that we and apes share a common ancestor. See Richard Dawkins' "The Ancestor's Tale" (his latest book).

more likely phospolipid. rna would have been too unstable in the early atmosphere, unless it had a membrane to cover it. and some think that peptides could have been the first replicating molecules. sort of prionic templates. there's a nice summary at:
