Please Take Along This Smile (Hello Mr. Chips)

an inscription for a book as yet unwritten

Dear reader should you be an Anglophile
I do hope you will stop in here awhile
And if you are not perhaps you forgot
How charming we can be as you will see

And reader should you be an Anglophobe
Poetry hospitality and tea
Should soften you up as you gently probe
The secrets of the universe with me

I had a tenant called me Mr. Chips
I have been told I have sensitive lips
Do come right on in and let us begin
And when you leave please take along this smile

But my broken heart belongs to someone far away
(Hello Mr. Chips) and we will meet again someday
