Transcendental Sonnet #1299:
Three in the Morning Railroad Track in the Rain

Up and down lonesome town everyone together
At three in the morning snug in their beds at home
Cold rain chills me to my bones this weeping weather
Why has my life left me like this out here to roam
Like the madman I am at this ungodly hour?

I feel as though the night could reach down and devour
Me without a trace no one to recall my face
I could simply disappear never to be found
Into another dimension of time and space

But I just keep on walking by the railroad track
I have no idea whatever where I am bound
Or when I left or why or when I might be back
I stumble now and then because I look above
Me for the stars searching to find the one I love
