Where did the lumpiness in the infant universe come from, and how were the lumps later amplified by gravity into galaxies?

....Observations of the farthest reaches of the Universe show that it is "lumpy", with well developed structures that are very old: we detect galaxies and clusters of galaxies as far back in time as we can see, when the Universe was about a fifth of its current age - but we still do not understand how these structures condensed out of the "primordial soup"....

Galaxies in the Early Universe Came in Every Flavour....

....What did the universe look like when it was only 2 to 3 billion years old? Astronomers used to think it was a pretty simple place containing relatively small, young star-forming galaxies. Researchers now are realizing that the truth is not that simple. Even the early universe was a wildly complex place. Studying the universe at this early stage is important in understanding how the galaxies near us were assembled over time....

....the existence of "red and dead" galaxies that form no new stars, exist in the early universe!

Seriously though, How do galaxies form?

Does anyone know of the true mechanics of a galaxy?

A galaxy in the full fury of creation!

Until "dark matter" is understood, it's not possible to understand galactic mechanics.
