Transcendental Sonnet #1289:
When Spring Comes

By the time my furnace is fixed it will be spring
And I will have survived the last winter storm
By then I will have learned just about everything
About trying to keep a haunted house warm
In spite of the fact that it cannot be done
I will have proven my stubbornness and won

All of my body-fat has disappeared
Along with a good measure of my sanity
I am as my daughter has always feared
Eating-disordered but not out of vanity
It is just that I have no appetite
And it causes me to shiver all night

Were it not for hot tea I would no longer be
When spring comes I think I will be all right
