Eviction Songs



I. Nowhere but Everywhere



The rent is too high
For my SSI
And me I can see
The housing unfair
Here as anywhere

My reality
Neither here nor there
But to wander free
Between I suppose
To go how it goes

With nowhere to be
Now but everywhere



II. Who Matters Now



Have you ever had the suspicion
Some venerated tradition
Or other apple pie for mother
Some romp of the pomp of circumstance
Has degenerated into nonsense finally
Whatever it meant before after all?

I have though I am so poor and small
That no one who matters can see
Me but you see it matters to the
One who never mattered ever mindful of his chance

Down here I never mind about up there anymore
What was or what some clever someone does
Though they have won their battle because they have lost their war
Nor can they see forever for the Lance

Forsaken I will not forsake though broken still not break
Shaken I will give a shake to those who only take
And wounds still fresh from where their pound of flesh was taken
Are mindful of who matters now and who is mistaken



III. Home Alone



Given enough marijuana and Merlot
I get by and can be happy even though
Evicted unconvicted unrestricted
To a place that does not want me anymore

Wherever I live whatever I live for
Is more than where for anywhere can be there
Whenever I find it then I will be where
Home is I suppose or home as I can be

One who knows the only home I know is me
My home from which I cannot be evicted
I find in my mind in my own head instead
Of what I cannot own but am home alone

I get by and can be happy even so
Given enough marijuana and Merlot



IV. Everything Ends



I stopped feeding the ravens when I got evicted but
They are still out there and we are still friends
They know in their bones of the skull beneath the skin and what
I do too the hard way now how everything ends
