About you attract what you think.I know that is true to some extent, but what about the depths they take it to? You can watch the full movie here.

It's absolute bunk. The phenomenon is called "magical thinking" and is present in many early forms of religion. The idea seems cool; what we think and the so-called "energies" we exude somehow manifest as reality. Another example of this type of deal is a form of Buddhism called SGI where they think chant a certain phrase helps people to overcome barriers etc.

Consider the flip side though... if a girl is raped its her thought right? I mean she must have been thinking rape thoughts. Oh and hey... when a plane goes down, someone on board must have been having too many crash thoughts.

It certainly feasible and too a degree supported that consciousness effects reality. I mean, when a new pharmaceutical comes out they have to determine it's efficacy in comparison to a placebo because placebo medicines do work to some degree. It really could be the power of the mind at work, although there are other possible explanations as well, based more in the behaviors that result from certain expectations.

The secret though? It's a lie. The so-called science is a total misrepresentation as to what quantum physics entail as nearly anyone with a semester or two of physics could explain. It caters to people of low intelligence and education.

The flip side of course is that it probably does make for happier people at times. I mean the power of positive thinking is real because we pay more attention to that which is positive and ascribe positivity to circumstances which otherwise would have been neutral. Theres alot to be said about the human ability to find what it's looking for. The "secret" provides a framework for these people to have hope and think things are better than they really are. If you don't mind living in a lie, then perhaps you'll find value in it.

I don't know much about the Law of Attraction, seems based on a series of books by Jane Roberts, two books of note, "Seth Speaks" and "The Nature of Personal Reality", you can check them out on Amazon.

From Seth Speaks, thought precedes form:

"No objective reality exists but that which is created by consciousness
Consciousness always creates form, not the other way around"

There is a logical theory expressed through the books.

I'm down with idealism. In fact idealism is far older than materialism. Consciousness may affect or even create the world around us; however, this still doesn't translate into a law of attraction.

perhaps there could also be a law of "non-attraction". ever not be able to get into contact with someone and just want to talk to them more?

Well TBH, it caused me to feel anxious about any negative thoughts suddenly coming true. The movie is lame. A friend kept swearing by it, I think it makes people feel happy in a sort of lame way.

I think that if you think positive thoughts, you perceive the world in a positive way. They try to make this logic into something magical in order to attract (no pun intended) consumers.

The message goes deeper than that. The idea is that consciousness affects the fabric of the universe. Positive attitudes mixed with underlying self conscious beliefs can conflict with each other and cancel each other out. Energy is energy and the universe is made up of conscious energy. The world around you is uniquely experienced and created by you. Because we (human beings) are intimately connected, (like the cells in the body) we can feel each other. As a whole we create this earth in much more of an intimate way than is seen and understood thru surface appearances.

Unfortunately the movie doesn't go very deep, but rather exemplifies more of the new agey feel good idea of the relationship between man and reality. People try to paste positive attitudes over their past experiences and beliefs of reality and fail to really experience the world as it really is. You can believe all you want in nice things, but if you believe in the bad as a reality, your nervous system prepares itself for what it believes lurks in the background and tries to manipulate the outside to prevent or block what the mind accepts as negative, rather than changing the experience of reality from the inside, to create reality differently and from a different perspective of greater understanding.

In the same way the mind can affect the body, it can affect the world around you.

The idea that because of our connection with a “universal energy force,” our thoughts and feelings have the ability to manipulate this energy force to our liking. Our thoughts and feelings attract a corresponding energy to ourselves. If our thoughts are negative, we attract negative things. If our feelings are positive, we attract positive things. The essential message of “The Secret” is that we all have the power to determine our own destiny. We can all create our own reality. Through fully and consistently applying the “law of attraction,” we can be who we want to be and have everything we want to have.

What we currently experience will mirror what we consistently exude in the way of belief and thought. Some of that thought is without conscious awareness. Obviously on a surface level, we wish for many things that do not come, as well as wish to avoid those that do.
