If confirmed, the discovery would undermine Albert Einstein's 1905 theory of special relativity, which says that the speed of light is a "cosmic constant" and that nothing in the universe can travel faster.

Why does it undermine Einstein? Maybe one little detail of relativity, but surely not relativity in its entirety. The point of relativity is just that light is a constant to all observers. Am I wrong?

I have suspected this is possible myself. Have any of you experienced the Benihana phenomenon? Once you take a bite of their food with the ginger sauce, it somehow manages to travel the 25+ feet instantaneously.

If the neutrinos are showing up first at the detectors and are on time with GPS calculations does that mean that heavier particles like electrons are slowing down?

It looks like scientific community is standing at verge of emergence of New Physics.

So we are observing a fantastic Magical shift of the Magical Tables.

Btw, I have noted that an old user of Brain Meta years ago told here about the coming shift in a quite strange mono-dialog with well known "mythological" personage. What I pity that I forgot to save the link when I read that passage 2 months ago on Brain Meta.

Hahaha of course... I still don't see why a neutrino wouldn't be expected to travel faster than the speed of light in some instances so long as there is not absolute vacuum present, which if quantum mechanics is correct, the possibility of an absolute vacuum is nonexistent. Light travels slower than the speed of light so long as it is doing so through a medium smile.gif
