numbness in the dark
a soul no longer plays it's part
once distant future, now harsh truth
it's revelation ends a youth

not everyone will be the smartest
not everyone will work their hardest
not every poet is an artist
one far-fetched expectation's farthest

there's a middle of the bottom
average citizen of sodom
blind to evil, deaf to good
doing nothing he shouldn't or should

sun up Sunday, he will fail
nor any day can he avail
what's left of use, or less, for sale
or trade to see his coffin nailed

This speaks to the idea of individualism prevalent in the developed world, and the anxiety and feelings of inadequacy it can produce in the individual who bears the credit and the blame of his own judgment as both blessing and burden in uneasy equipoise, and there are some very satisfying rhymes here as well. Thanks. Some loverly lines afoot.
