So, I came home after a night of chain smoking and shooting the breeze. It felt nice to be away from the smoke, finally settling in at home, and breathing in the nice change of autumn air(especially here in shitty, dry las vegas). I decided that I would make the most of my air: I relaxed my entire body without automatically falling asleep and I breathed; I breathed in this fresh air that was long forgotten to many parts of my body. The focus upon this long lost pleasure built upon itself, opening parts of my lungs that I had nearly forgotten how to use.
What I noticed was that I had developed a tightness in my chest; this tightness was a reaction to the stresses of life and habit of smoking. This whole time, I had been tense to the point of nervousness in certain situations; the majority of the situations came after smoking. So now, after breathing normally and relaxing the overcompensation in my chest all day, I feel like a million dollars. The feeling is comparable to being a young child playing outside all day and getting home at sundown, feeling like I had accomplished some of the greatest feats that could give arise to satisfaction at a days end. I knew the importance of breathing, but what had passed my attention was the stress of the muscles around my sternum. Not only has it given arise to a rediscovered feeling of wellbeing, but my energy levels have increased dramatically. These are only two of many things to list that breathing has fixed today. I've heard somewhere that we place focus our stress and compound it in certain areas of our bodies. Hopefully, my insight will be helpful to anyone who is looking to boost their mindstate...by a method that I've overlooked for much too long. |
