I am curious what everyone's thoughts are on buying up rainforest land to try to protect such rainforests. On one hand, it makes sense to try to purchase and protect valuable natural resources such as rainforest land to protect from gross exploitation and ruin, and yet on another hand, buying up rainforest land would likely result in native tribe dislocations and loss of invaluable cultural traditions.

What if you bought it and gave it to the inhabitants?

They do that, they purposely buy land where natives inhabit to allow them to maintain their way of life.

The point is how much does it cost?

On the face of it, this sounds like a great idea. And in some instances, in some areas of the world, it works. But as it turns out, purchasing large tracts of land for conservation in Peru is legally as well as financially unfeasible–and actually protecting a private reserve the size of the Reserva Comunal Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo (RCTT), where RCF carries out its projects, would be impossible. Unfortunately, nothing is as simple as it seems.http://www.buygw2golds.com

It's sad that we need to wonder how much it would cost to buy a piece of Earth without which we could not survive.
