It's because we are overpopulated for size of country that we are. I read somewhere that on an area basis we are worse than India. The trouble is that we keep expanding our population due to immigration. I love our cosmopolitan structure, but unless we curtail net immigration we will start falling off the cliffs at Dover. So, with our large relative population we generate more associated pollution (more cars, more power generation, more waste etc). No wonder our air quality is poor. But apparently we must be physically weak and pretty mentally thick because the Government tells us that we have been or are short of almost every type of worker imaginable, and hence we must welcome more and more immigrants to dig our holes, harvest our vegetables, nurse and doctor our sick, etc, etc. I wonder why our unemployment figures have risen to the highest for over a decade - cos the British can't get a bloody job! I say stop immigration and limit our population to it's already too large a size. Then we can work on reducing the pollution that overpopulation causes. Did anyone take a look at China and India lately - polluted; yet Sweden and Norway - clean. I rest my case!

I'm sure those figures are wrong. Or ... the 49 million probably represents ENGLAND and doesn't include Wales or Scotland or NI. Now, the UK's population is approx 60 million. I'll find a source for this later.

besides london, of course, where do you surmise are the trouble areas are that are generating this shocking statistic? What is the population of london anyway! I thought there was just london and then it was all beautiful rolling countryside, lol.... filled with knights, princess', dancing elves and crazy little green drunk leprechauns
