I've heard that the brain is fully developed when males are 25. Is that true? If so what can those of us that are 25 do to maximize our potential?

Are you talking physically developed? Or cognitively developed? I say between 30 and 35, as do many others state this is where full conscious awareness occurs.... or has the potential to occur!

.... as the mind cognitively develops, so does the physical apparatus that conscious awareness arises from! So by your logic the brain continues to physically develop until death as well!

As one cognitively develops changes are made to the physical synaptic arrangement and firing and neuronal activity of the brain!

yes, i think you are definitely right on. perhaps the various regions of the brain develop outwardly until 25 or so and then the brain begins to develop internally and complexify on the synaptic and neuronal levels throughout the duration of life. Neuroplasticity reigns supreme!

I'm 20 1/2 now, what can I do to ensure that it's being properly developed? Any extra supplements I should take?

Hey GF,

Even though I work in cognitive enhancement and believe nootropics can be helpful, a solid diet and exercise is the foundation for brain development. Learn as much as you can about what fascinates you, try new things, take some creative risks, meet different types of people and listen to their ideas, travel and experience the myriad sensations our beautiful planet has to offer.

I'm trying to have a healthy diet (slow carbs, avoiding sugars etc).

I'm also trying to eat 100g of fish two times a week. Is that enough?

For structural changes? It's not cheap and would require regular MRI scans.

QUOTE
Brain develops 'till the age of 40'

A new study by University College London has claimed that the human brain does not stop developing until people are in their 30s or 40s -- meaning that many still have something of the teenager about them long after they have become adults.

The finding could perhaps help explain why seemingly respectable adults sometimes just can't resist throwing a tantrum or sulking until they get their own way, the 'Daily Mail' reported.

Lead researcher Professor Sarah-Jayne Blakemore said: "Until about 10 years ago, it was pretty much assumed that the human brain stops developing in early childhood. But we now know that is far from the truth, in fact most regions of the human brain continue to develop for many decades.

"The region that goes through the most protracted development is the pre-frontal cortex at the front of the brain. It is involved in decision-making, planning and inhibiting inappropriate social behaviour and also things like social awareness and understanding other people and empathy.

"This region starts to develop very early on after conception and continues to develop right through childhood and undergoes a reorganisation at the onset of puberty. It continues to develop well into a person's 30s and even 40s.

"It is involved in all sorts of cognitive functions that in a way make us human." Although a person can continue to learn new skills after this, the basic structural changes driven by genes and biology rather than by what they are seeing or doing will tend to have been completed. And, eventually, the deterioration associated with old age will set in.

QUOTE
15. And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims."

16. Those are the ones from whom We will accept the best of what they did and overlook their misdeeds, [their being] among the companions of Paradise. [That is] the promise of truth which they had been promised.

depends on what aspects of development that you are interested in. Some developmental processes, like myelination, occur very rapidly in early life, but nonetheless, occur at a reduced rate throughout adult life, into senescence.

I think when you say phsycially develop. It occurs right after adolescence period. This is the time when the frontal lobe is developed. But when you say psychologically or emotionally develop, it depends, and it make take time
