as your eyes close, death is in me
with the escape of fleeting awareness
leaving sadness here, to press
another soul, and bear
the brief sense of pain, of life

this death will, and should
tell of hunger, thirst, isolation
for, amongst corpses, is the stuff
of you, and the time now to be
but more, to perceive

hiding in the darkness that is
or the brightness that was
is the fate of all who dare
yet the unborn have no idea, that
the passing makes it all worthwhile
