In a slice of 1mm x 1mm x 0.5mm of (layer4) V1, it is possible to find information from left eye, right eye, as well as Magnocellular and Parvocelluar data. (p 327 Neuroscience, Exploring the brain. Second edition.)

Questions:

1) How many neurons are in this area? ie what is the density of neurons in V1
2) How many neurons from thalmus provide input to this small slice? ie what is the density of input to V1

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. I would appreciate any help even if it is to point me to somewhere else.

I only know that the cortex thickness and density are relatively the same even among species..., the only exception is the Visual cortex which has nearly the double density.
I read that in: Principles of neural sciences by Eric R.Kandel.

I think the total population of cells at the V1 is 10 millions.

Thats all what I know, I wish this help even if they are little far from what you need.
