Rather Like Rhymes
Wandering wondering nickels and dimes Jingling in my pocket rather like rhymes About dreams which never came true (not yet) The people on the sidewalk smile at me I smile right back at everyone I see Smiling makes it easier to forget The abject absurdity of it all And to be content to be poor and small I shaved off my whiskers I cut my hair Got all cleaned up walked down to Plaza Square Where everybody was nice to me there They told me they liked my new clean-cut look And they might also like to buy a book Well if they do of books I have plenty Sonnets fourteen hundred four and twenty Then these poems with no numbers at all By someone content to be poor and small Wandering wondering nickels and dimes Jingling in my pocket rather like rhymes +Steven Curtis Lance Copyright MMVII |
