Yesterday's Elephants

When the moon stands stark white against the night
The blue velvet of ancient memory
I remember some hope I see some light
And I tell myself what will be will be
But whatever happens I will be fine
Forged in the crucible of suffering
Nothing can overcome this soul of mine
Fashioned to survive all and everything
By one who has suffered much more than me

The absurd circus parade passes by
Yesterday's elephants trumpeting past
What they leave on the street is all at last
I stepped in it once and learned pretty fast
The passing parade's unreality
Means little or nothing to me as I
See the moon stand stark white against the night
The blue velvet of ancient memory
I remember some hope I see some light

And I tell myself what will be will be
