A PRESBYOPIC GERMAN SWIMMING IN DENIAL

Arms growing short as the light fades away,
It can’t be too bright at the end of the day.
Increasing the wattage of electricity,
Counters the loss of elasticity.

Too young for this time, there must be more days
Concentration’s the key to unlocking this haze.
Hold it just right and the focus improves
But then in an instant the blur circle moves.

A room full of readers and optical devices
Obtained for each distance at various prices.
Scattered throughout the domain of his lair.
For others who need them he’s willing to share.

“I cannot accept this. I shall overcome.
I’ll solve the equation with a dioptric sum.”
Immersed in denial he goes for a swim.
When the current’s too strong the outlook is grim.

For a back stroking German whose boat has capsized.
The struggle is over with his fate realized.
He floats down the river with his hands in the air
Consoling himself that he still has his hair.

It's not every day that one is inspired by a presbyopic German. Glad you enjoyed my humorous romp. He liked it as well. Thanks for your kind words as always.
