Sharing a bed with another person makes men dull, latest research published in the New Scientist journal says.

When men spend the night in the same bed with someone else their sleep patterns are disturbed, even if they do not have sex. This leads to poorer performance in intelligence tests the next day, UK’s Daily Mail newspaper said quoting an Austrian scientist’s research.

Women, too, get disturbed sleep if they share a bed, but their mental ability is not affected. Professor Gerhard Kloesch of the University of Vienna and his team used eight young unmarried, childless couples for the study.

The couples were asked to spend 10 nights sleeping apart and 10 together while Kloesch monitored their rest patterns at night through wrist monitors and sleep diaries.

The next day the couples were given mental ability tests. Even without having sex, everyone had more disturbed sleep when sharing a bed than alone but the effects of this on the brain only affected the men.

According to the journal: "Lack of sleep led to increased stress hormone levels in men and reduced their ability to perform simple cognitive tests the next day."

However women seemed to show no such ill-effects even if their sleep was just as disturbed. The researchers found women were more refreshed than men even when they slept the same number of hours and so concluded they must sleep more deeply.

The finding suggests that if a man has an important day ahead he would be best to head off to the spare room to sleep rather than sharing the marital bed.

The study also found sharing a bed can impact on dreams. Typically women remembered more of their dreams after sleeping alone while men recalled the most after sex.

I would like to add that not only sharing a bed but sometimes sharing a room or a flat and also a house with someone else could be harmful for men and women's IQ . It depends mostly on a person's sensitivity , some people need a vast private space to keep in balance their biological functions and their mental health.

Obviously, when a man has a partner, he does all his thinking with that secondary "brain"; the main brain then gets duller and duller from lack of use.

My dear wife makes my life worthwhile.

She complements my existence in a way which I can only hope I complement hers.

Never considered that matter from that aspect. It is hard to disagree with you. Though who will make food, clean houses etc. I think even in that case you still have chances to survive.

This link is funny, and should be in the 'jokes and humour' forum.

It's rather sad if most of you actually think like this though! Women rock and deserve just as much, if not more, for what they do and go through on a daily basis. Now, I'm not saying all women, because some are still mired in a temporal mode that is a residual remnant of states gone by, but for the most part....women rock.....ummmmmmmm!

Ha! ha! Real good one, Enki. I didn't know that about smart men. As for gays, well, I'm afraid I'd rather stay dumb, if that's the case. No disrespect toward the gay population, though. But I for one wouldn't trust my back to any of them! LOL I think I'll stick to my inflatable doll for a little bit longer. She doesn't complain if I'm late, or if I want to get kinki in the middle of the night. And better yet, she's not sucking my brains dry! She also comes-in handy during hurricane season in case I find myself in deep water. Blowing all that air into her in a hurry does get me tyred quickly, though. Hope Santa answers my prayers and gets me an automatic pump for xmas!
