Background: Newbie poster to BM forum, but have been reading the site for weeks (some very useful posts). Age: almost 40 (~220 lbs). Working in corporate America. Typical work day ~11 hours +- 1 hour. Looking for something to help me focus (which will hopefully improve my reading comprehension), also hoping to improve memory retention and still have enough energy to play/study with the kids when I get home... Am I asking for too much?
Additional Background: Regardless of the drug used (sinus medicine, alcohol, tylenol, caffeine, harder stuff), throughout my life it always seemed that I could not "feel" much. In fact, unless I had lots of alcohol, evenings out always made me feel sleepy. And throughout my life I've always been battling my lack of energy. Even now, I don't go to the gym because a little too much time exercising takes away from my ability to focus and motivate (and I do not want to feel slow at work). Sad, because most people report the opposite (ie., more energy when they work out). Anyway, I quit caffeine 1 month ago; after which I had a crushing headache for 3 days, but I feel much less irritable ever since. No need to keep chasing that next espresso... In fact, I must have really talked it up since 3 other colleagues at work also quit drinking coffee. We now have daily green tea sessions. At around the same time I started the following regimen: Veggie juicing/extracting every evening before dinner (lots of greens - eg., kale, parsley, celery, spinach, beets, ginger (some organic, but I can't afford all organic)). More sushi and whole grain everything (brown rice, breads) and more salads. B-complex (Natures way - in the morning) B-12 sub lingual (in the morning) C-500 (2x daily- throughout day) Vit D (2000 daily - in the morning) Ray and Terry's TransReservatrol (2 x 50 mg morning and evening). Started with another brand but got this from one of the BM recommended websites, for the "trans" bio-availability aspect. Ray and Terry's EPA/DPA (2 x morning and evening) Liquid deprenyl (3 to 5 drops on weekday mornings). Switched to Jumex (5 mg tabs/ weekday mornings) last week after reading this site. Huperzine-A (400 mcg -weekday mornings) New Chapter - Mental Clarity - Mushroom combo 2 caps (mornings daily). Finally, a few days ago I started taking Synaptine Zen (weekday mornings). In general, the effect of this regimen is that I seem to have slightly more energy (though I still need about 7.5 hours of sleep) and at times I feel some slight extra motivation/focus. The *big* difference is when I take 500 mcg of PEA (Phenyethylamine). Whoa! The first time I thought something was really wrong and I considered going to the hospital, but after a few minutes the experience became a very pleasurable tingling sensation throughout the body. Oddly enough, such a pleasant feeling was accompanied by an extremely effective ability to focus. To extrapolate, 30 minutes after taking the PEA, I was able to absorb large amounts of information, with razor sharp focus and good retention. All, while feeling *very* good; sometimes even sexual (a nice effect which is not as common as it once was in my youth... The problem with the PEA starts less than an hour after consumption, when it starts wearing off. At this point, I'm almost always cold (slight chills and some extra perspiration) and seemingly looking for my next fix. I start to feel like a junkie holding off until I can take another PEA... So, my questions include the following: 1. Based on everything I wrote, what should be my next steps? Overall, does the plan seem good/bad? 2. Are there any obvious things that I should remove? 3. Are there anythings that I should add? 4. Why does PEA have such a strong effect on me? Are there other supplements/regimens that can lead me to produce more PEA naturally? 5. Finally, I can't quantify it, but somehow the Jumex does not seem as potent as the Selepryl, but at this point it's hard to know since more time, probably, needs to elapse before jumping around. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. In general, as I mentioned earlier, I am very happy to have found this site. The content is very enlightening and so are most of the members. Though, I do wish people would put more links to their findings/research. Anyway, it's great to see such an involved group. |
