I am thinking about organizing a conference on nootropics, cognitive enhancers, and the ethics of cognitive enhancement. I have some speakers in mind I would like to invite and initially plan on having the conference at the Jupiter Beach Resort and Spa (see http://www.jupiterbeachresort.com/ ) sometime during the winter when its cold and dreary most everywhere else. I am trying to get some feedback on initial interest. Would you be interested in attending such a conference? Do you have any ideas on what topics you would like to hear discussed in detail or any particular speakers, scientists, etc. you would like to meet or listen to in person?

Here are some initial topic ideas I have in mind:

The Evolution of the Brain and Cognitive Enhancement

Treatment of Neurological Conditions (ie. ADHD, Alzheimer's) and Cognitive Enhancers

New Developments in Cognitive Enhancer Research

Longevity and Anti-Aging Brain Medicine

Ethics of Cognitive Enhancement in Higher Education

Future Prospects in Neurotechnology

Any thoughts you might have are appreciated. We may also be able to feature some local researchers from Scripps Research Institute Florida (see http://www.scripps.edu/florida/ ) and the Max Planck Florida Institute (see http://www.maxplanckflorida.org/ )- both of which are located here in Jupiter.

I'm from the UK, but would love to attend something like this.
Keep us informed as this would definitely be worth the trip over.

I will definitely keep the BM community informed. I would love to see this conference materialize and hope we can put something together in the next year or two. Any speakers you would like to see?

I wouldn't be interesting in attending it, but I would be interested in video of it.

Some speakers I would like to see in such an event are:

Nick Bostrom

Anders Sandberg

Barbara Sahakian

Trevor W. Robbins

Gary Lynch and others who might be involved in ampakine research past and present

Danielle Turner

And maybe Anjan Chatterjee

I would definitely come to such an event!

You already have all the topics I came up with. Except I didn't think to specify higher eduction when thinking of ethical concerns...why in that field only, I'm curious?

Ray Kurzweil is always very interesting when talking about transhumanist topics, and I know he's a supplement fiend. Any who don't know of him should see his lecture on TED.

I'll dig around in my lectures/docos/notes and see if I can find any more topics or potentially salient speakers.

Great idea, please keep us updated!

Kurzweil would be another really good speaker to have at the conference. Perhaps we could call it something to the effect of "International Conference on Transhumanism and Cognitive Enhancement". Bostrum and Kurzweil would fit right in.

I only indicated higher education because I was thinking of college students but the neuroethical concerns of cognitive enhancement also apply to the workplace, athletes, and even soldiers.
